Art & Artists Online Gallery: Miguel Angel Reyes

As part of our commitment to protect, preserve and promote the erotic arts for three and a half decades, Tom of Finland Foundation is making online galleries of our erotic art collection available to the public. Patrons of The World of TOM Patreon will receive the first look.

Miguel Angel Reyes is a Los Angeles – based portrait and figurative painter, muralist, printmaker and illustrator. Miguel incorporates expressionist brushwork and a saturated palette in celebration of the classic Latin tradition. Miguel’s accomplishments as a photographer informs the way he creates paintings and prints. When not working from life, Miguel begins by shooting his own photographs on the street, clubs, in studios and elsewhere. “I work from pictures I take of models, most are friends of mine, or friends of friends. I can play with the colors and backgrounds later,” says Miguel. Whether working from life or photos, his pieces always create an intimate connection between subject and viewer. 

Miguel’s figurative paintings are provocative, and very proudly masculine. As a teenager, he studied dancing, and the graceful, stylish lines of the body in motion are ever apparent in his work. 

Miguel describes his interest in art as threefold; with a commitment to craftsmanship, a love of earth tone colors, and the conviction that making art is an act of devotion that has the capability to trigger something similar in viewers.
