As part of our commitment to protect, preserve and promote the erotic arts for three and a half decades, Tom of Finland Foundation is making online galleries of our erotic art collection available to the public. Patrons of The World of TOM Patreon receive the first look. This week, we are featuring American erotic artist Sean Platter.
“Dark, dusty, decadent, overly ornamented, and thickly layered.”
Sean Platter has artwork filled with dark themes of demons, devils, angels, and the like stemming from his fascination with the power of symbology. Sean mostly draws and paints digitally.
My erotic art serves a variety of purposes. First, to entertain – whether that’s by arousing the viewer or amusing the viewer by showing the fun that can be had in erotic situations. Second, to expand the viewer’s imagination through my choice of imagery and the situation illustrated in each piece. Third, to amuse myself as I plan and execute each piece.
I have always been amazed that through symbols a limited form of magic exists. With just a crayon and a piece of discarded cardboard I can draw an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe that would bring tears to the eyes of a believer. I can also draw an image of a demon so vile as to cause that same person to become filled with revulsion and hate. It is the knowledge of that power of symbols which fuels much of my personal art.
I started as a commercial illustrator and graphic designer, so for most of my life, my personal style took a second seat to styles requested by clients. It wasn’t until I was in my forties that I finally found my own personal style.
I use a wide variety of software to help me bring my visions to life to entertain and amuse myself and the viewers of my art.
Thank you for your interest,
