CULTURAL ICON AWARD

FOR ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENT AND IMMEASURABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ART AND CULTURE OF OUR COMMUNITY

Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato

For three decades, World of Wonder has introduced audiences to new worlds, talent and ideas; reshaping international pop culture, while earning 33 Emmys and inspiring Oscar®-winning performances. Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato first met as film students at NYU film school in the mid-’80s before becoming creative and business partners in 1991 when they launched World of Wonder. Since then, they have been behind the Emmy® Award-winning “RuPaul’s Drag Race” on MTV and “Million Dollar Listing” LA & NY franchises on Bravo, as well as award-winning subversive documentaries.

Together Bailey and Barbato have produced more than 250 projects and share nearly three dozen credits as co-directors including award-winning and critically acclaimed films. Working together as directors in both the scripted and unscripted space, the dynamic duo seamlessly creates culture-shifting projects — a vision characterized by an appreciation for the quirky yet tell-tale details that grant access to a greater truth. Bailey and Barbato believe that storytelling is not limited to the size of the screen, but rather it is the dimensions of the story that counts.

Whether it is a convention, a live show in Vegas, a book, or a line of cocktails and mocktails, World of Wonder’s work inspires people to proudly and authentically live out their dreams, and give a voice to outsiders and marginalized communities.

ARTIST HALL OF FAME

FOR ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENT AND IMMEASURABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ART AND CULTURE OF OUR COMMUNITY

Holly Johnson

Artist, musician and writer.

Firmly established as a household name with his success with Frankie Goes to Hollywood and his first solo debut album in 1989.

In 1994, he revealed to us his struggle with, and acceptance of, his Gayness. He has been a monumental figure in our community. He was diagnosed with HIV in 1991 and has remained creative as a painter and printmaker and songwriter. One of his paintings appears as the cover to the Kirsty MacColl single “Angel”.

Born in Liverpool, he studied for a Master of Arts at art school and had his paintings exhibited at the Royal College of Art and at the Royal Academy in 2001. As a lover of art, he met Warhol and even named himself after one of Andy’s “superstars” (Holly Woodlawn).

The current exhibition at the Museum of Liverpool shows the visitor not only the glamor and sexual liberation but also the fear and stigma associated with being a Homosexual.

His creative genius has always put him at the forefront of every aspect of his career. His courage as an internationally renowned Queer artist has been an inspiration to untold millions.

DEDICATION AWARD

FOR ONGOING DEDICATION TO PROTECTING, PRESERVING AND PROMOTING EROTIC ART

Jim Neuman

James Walter Neuman was born on the north side of Chicago, grew up in East LA and Whittier and attended USC. After college, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, and spent part of his active duty on ships stationed off Vietnam. After his release from active duty, he transitioned to the Navy Reserve.

Leather has always been in his genes and he is the longest surviving active member of the California B&B Corps. He is well known for his extensive uniform collection and perfection of the art of the “costume change”.

He has participated in countless fundraising events and regularly can be seen at functions in Palm Springs, San Francisco and Los Angeles as well as annual visits to MAL, IML and CLAW.

A world traveler, cowboy, car enthusiast, and music and theater aficionado, and notwithstanding his outgoing personality, is a quiet advocate, behind the scenes, of dozens of charities. His support as a philanthropist covers a broad spectrum of causes including Tom of Finland Foundation, where he is a Lifetime Benefactor and staunch proponent of our mission. We recognize him for acknowledging the Foundation’s service.

Here is a man who has enjoyed every day of his life and who has given back more than he’s received. He is a pioneer, a mentor and has become a true legend in our community.
