Highlighting the power of sexual attraction in the realm of Southeast Asian masculinity.
This series of work by Oat Montien was made at TOM House where he had access to Tom’s preparatory sketches. The loose unfinished lines contrast with the refined details that Tom is known for, and became Oat’s initial inspiration. These portraits of male models from Thailand incorporate elements from the Leisure Project fashion collection and illustrate Tom’s influence and legacy in the South-East Asian Queer identity today.

Oat Montien is one of Thailand’s most prominent Queer artists. Born in 1989, Oat’s background in museums has geared his artistic practice towards queering of historical canons. Well-known for his radical approach to male nude representation, he has exhibited in various institutions such as Patpong Museum, National Library of Thailand, Thailand Cultural Center, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, The V&A Museum of Childhood (London), Chester Beatty Library (Dublin), Today Art Museum (Beijing). He recently also founded Boddhisattava Gallery, Bangkok’s first exclusively LGBTQ+ art space.
