SUMMARY:"Sex Now"
DESCRIPTION:With works by Paul McCarthy\, Peaches\, Zheng Bo\, Tom of Finland\, Joëlle Dubois\, Poulomi Basu\, Miyo van Stenis\, Antigoni Tsagkaropoulou\, Martin de Crignis\, Melody Melamed\, Fausto Berlin and many more.\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n PLEUN VAN DIJK\n \n \n \n \n \n TOM OF FINLAND\n \n \n\nSex can connect\, liberate\, hurt and control people. With the exhibition Sex Now\, you are invited to discover lust\, bodies and desire in all their complexity. From latex fashion\, furniture design\, photography and media art to dolls and toys: in ten themed rooms with around 400 objects\, are staged to create an intimate dialogue about sexuality and society. The exhibition tells of erotic fantasies\, Queer perspectives and new realities—free of taboos and stigma. \nA historical introduction shows how sexual morality has changed: from traditional gender roles to the sexual revolution of 1968 to today’s #sexpositivity. A 1969 sex education atlas and purple dungarees as a symbol of political emancipation meet works such as Fleshie Fountain by artist Peaches—an installation of sex toys originally intended for male masturbation that now subvert patriarchal power relations. \nFAUSTO BERLIN \nInteractive stations invite visitors to playfully question their own experiences\, ideas and myths. The Sexoscope takes a humorous look into the future\, a body knowledge collective displays genital models that can be taken apart\, and in the Queer #Fluffy Library\, a plush creature devours feminist stories—and turns them into new knowledge. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nSex Now presents female artists\, designers and activists whose work contributes to sexual emancipation. They help minorities gain greater visibility and act as educators in an area that\, despite the sexual revolution and commercialization\, is still characterized by inequality and shame. To accompany the exhibition\, NRW-Forum Düsseldorf is launching thier own OnlyFans account\, which will show uncensored behind-the-scenes insights and selected works. \n The exhibition was curated by Alain Bieber (Artistic Director of NRW-Forum Düsseldorf) and Judith Winterhager (Curatorial Assistant). \nTuesday–Sunday: 11a–6p\nThursday: 11a–9p\nMonday: Closed\n€9.50  regular \n€6.50  reduced\nINFO

SUMMARY:"Miettinen Collection: Body Politics"
DESCRIPTION:Opening ceremony: Friday 23rd January from 6 to 8p \n\nThe exhibition presents a wide selection of works by Finnish and internationally renowned artists and provides an overview of the art collection\, where the human body plays a central role. The exhibition features approximately 130 works that invite us to deepen our understanding of humanity. \nThe name Body Politics refers to the social norms and politics that regulate the human body\, as well as the struggle between the individual and society for control over it. The exhibition is named after the Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo’s (b. 1984) work Body Politics 3 (2016). Boafo\, a leading contemporary artist\, addresses the role of ethnicity\, identity and masculinity in his powerful paintings – themes which are central to the exhibition. \nOn view in the exhibition are also works by Finnish and international artists such as Alexander Basil\, Karim Boumjimar\, Louise Bourgeois\, Elina Brotherus\, Zohar Fraiman\, Leiko Ikemura\, Janne Räisänen\, Julian Röder\, Emma Sarpaniemi\, Tom of Finland and Grace Weaver. \nThe exhibition concludes an international tour of museum exhibitions that has presented the collection in both Germany and Finland. \nCurated by Noora Lehtovuori\, Maaria Salo and Janna Sirén. \n\nTimo Miettinen has made his career within the family business. Today\, he is more dedicated to the art collection and is the family’s second-generation art collector\, who was exposed to art from an early age. He lives in Berlin\, where Miettinen Collection is also located–a meeting place that focuses on the internationalization of Finnish art. The Miettinen Collection contains approximately 1\,500 works and since 2004 the collection has been expanded with contemporary art. \nPhoto Noora Lehtovuori courtesy Galerie Judin \nThe human figure and the nude body are among the oldest and most classical subjects in art\, and the exhibition at presents them in all their complexity. The show explores the body as both an individual\, emotional experience and as part of broader social and political structures. Body Politics challenges norms\, celebrates desire and sensuality\, and reflects on identity\, freedom and the rules society places on the human body. \n  \nOpen Wednesday–Saturday 10a–5p. Closed Sunday till Tuesday.
