“Codes of Belonging” by Georg Meyer-Wiel

During his residency at the Tom of Finland Foundation, Georg Meyer-Wiel created a series of paintings and drawings exploring how clothing, posture, and self-presentation express contemporary Gay identity. Through portraiture, conversations, life sittings, and archival research, the project examined how dress functions as a visual language of confidence, desire, vulnerability, and belonging while tracing Tom of Finland’s enduring influence on representations of Gay masculinity.
