ÉAMON McGIVERN “A/History”

Rooted in a philosophy of portraiture that embraces empathy as a creative act, A/History presents new paintings by San Francisco-based artist Éamon McGivern. Drawing on personal memory and research in the GLBT Historical Society archives, McGivern offers portraits that reflect on the lives and legacies of Queer and Trans elders whose absence continues to shape contemporary life. Through painterly interpretation and archival reference, the exhibition invites reflection on memory, representation, and the multifaceted nature of human identity.
McGivern is currently participating in our ToFF Artist-in-Residence Program and preparing for his upcoming show at TOM House.
Meet Éamon McGivern, Artist-in-Residence
Welcome Éamon! Éamon McGivern is a painter from San Francisco who over the last seven years has painted portraits of Bay Area Queers, punks and poets. More recently, he has been delving into the archives of twentieth century LGBTQ+ history, picking up strands from holes in the historical narratives in an attempt to darn the tears between the past and present wrought by political oppression, transphobia and the HIV/AIDS epidemic. McGivern’s work feeds into the sorrow borne from the absence…If you have an upcoming erotic art event you would like to have listed here, please use our Events Page Submission Form.
