“Fifty years ago, no one could have predicted how far the Regiment, Tom of Finland Foundation, and the LGBTQ community would have come. Over the years, Tom’s work has had an effect on global culture unmatched by that of virtually any other artist, defining the way many Gay men throughout the world were perceived and more importantly, how they perceived themselves.

In 2019, the Regiment Fund for TOM House was established to aid in the maintenance and preservation of Tom of Finland’s legendary residence and for the Foundation which preserves his art and legacy. Generous contributions from our sponsors will replenish the fund, and will be matched (up to $5,000) by a team member’s employer.

Los Angeles is very fortunate to be the home of Tom of Finland Foundation, which resides at TOM House. Throughout the 1980s, TOM House was the California abode of the revered artist. Tom was an honorary member of the Regiment of the Black and Tans and he created several iconic works of art featuring members, to promote club functions.

TOM House is a Craftsman structure built in 1911, and is the central archive for Tom of Finland’s collections and those of hundreds of other emerging and well-known erotic artists. TOM House is also a gathering place for the Leather Community, a center for art and cultural events, and operates a bustling artists-in-residence program. The House was declared a City of Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in recognition of its importance as the primary residence of Tom of Finland during the 1980s, as well as for it being a focal point in Los Angeles’s rich LGBTQ+ arts and culture scene.

Maintenance of buildings that are over one hundred years often requires multiple on-going projects. In response to the need for funding, the members of the Regiment of the Black and Tans have decided that proceeds from the 50th Anniversary event in excess of cost will be dedicated to the existing Regiment Fund for TOM House, to replenish this much needed source of funding for critical maintenance, preservation, and improvements to the structure.

The establishment of the Regiment Fund has helped the Foundation to focus on its purpose of preserving, protecting, and promoting the erotic arts. In order to maximize impact, the donations going to the fund will be matched by a team member’s employer, up to $5,000.
