“In 2001 when I came [to Taschen], this was one of the things Benedikt [Taschen] brought up immediately, ‘We’re going to do the ultimate Tom of Finland book.’ The first thing I did was the comic collection. I did this little, tiny Tom boxed set. But Benedikt still said, ‘We really should do a really, really good one…a really big one.’ And it was going to require getting everything there was in the world. And that was the assignment I was given: find all of the Tom of Finland [work] that was in existence.” – Dian Hanson of Taschen on Tom of Finland
