Diesel to hold special exhibition with Gay art pioneer Tom of Finland Foundation

Diesel Art Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo will be holding the Forty Years of Pride exhibition by Tom of Finland Foundation, a pioneer in gay art, from 12th July to 14th August.

This exhibition is part of the 2024 Diesel x Tom of Finland Foundation Pride program supported by Diesel . In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the founding of Tom of Finland Foundation, in addition to exhibiting the iconic works of artist Tom of Finland, the VR work TOM House: the VR Experience, which allows visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the artist’s works, will be unveiled for the first time in Japan.

In addition to exhibiting and selling the works, the venue will also sell artist-related merchandise and a capsule collection that is the third collaboration between Diesel and Tom of Finland Foundation.

A collection that celebrates the enduring pride of the Queer community.

The collection is inspired by the work of Queer artists that Tom of Finland Foundation has been protecting for 40 years. The lineup includes denim jackets, denim pants, shirts, T-shirts, and caps. The items are currently on sale at the official online store, and will be available in select stores from 11th July.

The pieces feature canvas tape printed with quotes from artists and a variety of erotic art prints, including The Hun’s homoerotic illustrations and comics from 1960s “beefcake” magazines, Tank’s colorful photographs of American cowboys, Stuart Sandford’s Polaroid photographs of Gay men, writers and artists, Valentine’s drawings of intertwined bodies, and Tom of Finland’s artwork of an iconic Gay bar scene.

During the exhibition, a campaign will also be held in which anyone who adds the brand’s official Line account as a friend will receive wallpaper exclusive to this exhibition.

Tom of Finland Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 by Durk Dehner and Tom of Finland. The Foundation manages and preserves his vast collection of works and protects erotic art around the world. It also works to promote a healthier and more tolerant understanding of sexuality, such as informing the general public about the cultural merits of erotic art.
