La Boca del Desierto es la metamorfosis de un encuentro erótico que fluye entre lo animal, lo humano y germina en lo vegetal.

El erotismo es ese hilo que nos conecta a la tierra, movimiento constantemente, incluso sin percibirlo, como una danza de átomos entre nosotros, entre planos que no percibimos y en la belleza de la naturaleza, que en definitiva somos.

Presented at TOM House, visiting Artist-in-Residence frank.xarate (Francisco Zarate) presents his experiential art installation entitled La Boca del Desierto. Inspired by a recent visit to Joshua Tree, the mouth of the desert becomes a metamorphosis of an erotic encounter that flows between animal and human, germinating into plant. The installation will conclude the artist’s three-month residency in Los Angeles and is presented for one night only with musical accompaniment by Los Angeles DJs Cocteautwinks and Jaqck Glam.

For Zarate, “eroticism is the thread that connects us to the earth, constant movement, even without perceiving it, like a dance of atoms between us, between planes that we do not perceive and in the beauty of nature, which ultimately, we are.”

Born in Buenaventura, Colombia, frank.xarate is a Black and Indigenous artist and is currently lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His work explores connections between the foundational imagery of his childhood dreams, his Indigenous heritage, and contemporary life. Fostering an emotional connection to the diverse materials he incorporates into his work, the artist seeks out both digital and traditional art materials that evoke the emotional background, meaning, and story, from with he builds his own symbolic universe.

Recently Zarate work was featured in the exhibition entitled Sexy Lil’ Art Show at And Pens in Los Angeles curated by Darin Klein and in AlgoRANDOM x Kolors Fest in Buenos Aires.

frank.xarate’s other immersive, large-scale installation entitled A Tearoom Art Experience is currently on view at the T’Art Gallery at Akbar in Silverlake through 2nd August. Drawing on the long, complex history and rolls of tearooms (from toilet room or t-room) in Gay culture as both a space for cruising and sexual encounters and southern slang for gossip. The site-specific painted mural was commissioned by Akbar as part of an ongoing series of public art installations and was facilitated by David LeBarron, Albert Loya, and Darin Klein. The artist is developing a limited-edition T-shirt for Akbar that be released shortly.
