Patpong Narcissus is an erotic visual poem. Based on James Bidgood’s Pink Narcissus, this experimental film blends together haunting historical narrative and COVID-19 era reality of Bangkok’s infamous red light district. It follows the daydream of a beautiful boy prostitute who conceives a series of interlinked fantasies populated by ghosts from the Cold war.
This film invites the audience to contemplate on the multilayered construct of Southeast Asian/Thai Gay men’s identity and desire, particularly the influence from the the Americans’ Patpong infiltration during 1960s-’80s.
The world-premiere screening includes a talk with artist and creator Oat Montien and Lissa Rivera discussing the legacy of James Bidgood and will be followed by a Q&A.
Audience members are welcome to stay until 10p and socialize with drinks by donation at the bar.
