We are pleased to invite you on behalf of Chloë Cassens to The Philosophical Research Society for the return of Jean Cocteau’s mythic masterpiece Orpheus (1950), screening on Sunday 6th April from 7-9p, with a conversation to follow.
A weather-related power outage interrupted the original event, but sparked a conversation! We look forward to viewing Orpheus in its entirety with you, and talking through its overall meaning and place in Cocteau’s lore, the historical background and behind-the-scenes drama, and techniques that influenced generations of greats including David Lynch, David Bowie, The Smiths, Allen Ginsburg, Frank O’Hara, Tim Burton, Andrei Tarkovsky, and more.
The screening will be followed by an in-depth discussion about Cocteau’s groundbreaking work between Chloë Cassens, the founder of Sacred Monster and the representative of the Severin Wunderman Collection, which is the largest collection in the world of works by Cocteau, and dama, who is an artist, curator, a librarian at The Philosophical Research Society, and the host of the Surrealist Study Group.
