Limited-edition bodywear inspired by Tom of Finland’s erotica
Fans of Tom of Finland, rejoice! The sexy underwear brand Rufskin is launching a 15-piece collection featuring the artwork by Touko Laaksonen (Tom of Finland’s real name), with designs inspired by his hunky characters.
For Rufskin, it’s also a way to pay tribute to its roots: Founders Hubert Pouches and Douglas Coats say Laaksonen’s work played a significant role in the creation their label, which was specifically inspired by his vision of unhibited masculinity.
When imagining the collection, Pouches, head designer of Rufskin, wanted to pay homage to the artist, and also introduce him to a new generation of devotees:
“My goal when I was asked to collaborate with such an iconic name was to showcase the incredible work of an artist who insistently pushed the boundaries of art and sex and translating it into an ‘athletic’ wardrobe, which is today fully part of our daily routine,” Pouches said.
The Rufskin collection follows the historic release of Tom of Finland stamps in the artist’s home country, and the launch of a homeware range with Finlayson. Tom of Finland was also the subject of a major exhibition at The Museum of Contemporary Art, in Los Angeles, soon to be topped by a retrospective at Artists Space, in New York, the largest ever displayed in the US. A biopic on the artist, directed by Dome Karukoski, is also slated to hit silver screens next year.
That leaves you enough time to get your hands on Rufskin’s collection, which debuts globally on February 12.
Available for purchase at Rufskin.com, in Rufskin boutiques in San Diego, New York, Miami, and Amsterdam, and through select partners.
