Tom of Finland Foundation would like to wish everyone a Happy National Coming Out Day!

National Coming Out Day was first celebrated in 1988 in the United States, and it was spearheaded by Robert Eichberg and Jean O’Leary. Eichberg and O’Leary’s initial idea was grounded in the belief that the “personal being political”.

Today, National Coming Out Day is celebrated in numerous countries and has become more of a celebration of LGBTQ+ pride as the stigma of living openly Queer has lessened in many parts of the world.

We congratulate everyone for their successes in their journey of coming out, and we encourage more to do so in their own time.
