Celebrating International Women’s Day: Tom of Finland Foundation honors Heather Benjamin, an artist proudly represented in our permanent collection.

“It’s such an honor to have a working relationship with Tom of Finland foundation. Tom’s artwork has always been a huge inspiration to me; it’s so exquisitely beautiful and meticulous and simultaneously so raw and unabashed, which is a juxtaposition I’ve always been drawn to and have tried to emulate in my work since I was young. On top of my deep appreciation of his works on a visual level, as someone who makes work that challenges societally projected norms about sexuality, I have always related heavily to Tom’s work as well. It’s an honor to be contextualized alongside him in any capacity, and I find it incredibly inspiring and invigorating the way the Foundation in its current form is able to carry on Tom’s work and visibility in so many ways, from just keeping his important and groundbreaking work in the public eye to finding active ways to keep his work engaged with the art community through the Artist-in-Residence Program and the amazing events they put on, and so much more. I’m so blown away by the work of the Foundation, and it’s been a huge pleasure in my life to work with them on an ongoing basis.” – Heather Benjamin
