Naughty boys
The artist Tom of Finland (1920-1991), Finnish therefore as his pseudonym indicates, has gone down in history for his ultra-detailed pencil drawings of the male archetypes (muscular and mustachioed) of gay culture. From the 1970s, he first published comics before entering the art world and making his characters known: bikers, soldiers, policemen, sailors, lumberjacks, in misappropriated uniforms or in total leather look.
In Venice and Pantin, the project-space The Community pays homage to him, through an expanded panorama of works from the collection of his foundation which, usually located in Los Angeles, is presented here for the first time. to the public. If it is dedicated to the preservation of works by LGBTQI+ artists, the works are largely discoveries – with the big names, Kenneth Anger, Peter Berlin or John Waters.
