Yinon Avior Philipsohn was born in 1991. In 2011, he began his academic studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under the tutelage of Prof. Marcel Odenbach, later continuing at the Hamidrasha Faculty of Arts, where he graduated with a dual degree in art and education (BFA.Ed). In 2019, Philipsohn graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (MA).

Philipsohn has held solo exhibitions at the Kirsten Kjær Museum, Kunsthal Aarhus, and Eks Rummet in Denmark, as well as at The Artists’ House in Jerusalem and Galerie P6 in Germany, among others.

His works have been exhibited internationally at venues including Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Denmark, Kunsthal Bergen in Norway, the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Corinth in Greece, the CICA Museum in South Korea, the National Centre for Contemporary Art in Russia, Hinterraum in Germany, and the Israel Museum of Art.

Yinon Avior Philipsohn lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.

“My artistic process is genuinely uncertain and very organic. I don’t restrict myself to a specific medium, nor do I limit my ideas or the subjects I explore. However, autobiographical elements, such as my Jewish heritage and Queer identity, resonate in everything I create.

The secular spirituality at the core of my work stems from the belief that holiness is shaped by our individual experiences. This belief often leads my work to explore the complex interplay between sadomasochism and faith, as well as the fine line between pleasure and pain—violence in both sexual and socio-political contexts.

What fascinates me most is the physical tension between the work and its audience. Through the embodiment of physical and mental struggles, conflicts, and the often impossible collaboration between materials, I strive to reflect the state of presence.”
