Meet Orpheus, Artist-in-Residence

“Growing up Gay in the British suburbs in the 1990s, Los Angeles always appeared like an impossible dream world of sexiness and liberation. This residency will be my first visit to the west coast of the United States. I hope to produce a series of paintings that will help me discover and explore the diversity of L.A.’s Queer culture, art, and history. At this juncture in time, it’s doubly important to use art and culture to celebrate and normalise all corners of our Queer and alternative lifestyles.” – Orpheus

 

Orpheus is a painter based on the south coast of the United Kingdom. His highly charged scenes of Gay sex draw their compositions and moods from baroque art of the seventeenth century and are painted using the same techniques and materials as the old masters. His work has been exhibited in London and Canada.
