Jay R. Lawton: PROJECT 50

Friends and organizers Thomas Trafelet, Peter Ayala and Dave Alexson with Jay’s photographs of them.
Jay’s PROJECT 50 challenges stereotypes of what life over 50 means for the Gay community. Before his work could be shown, Jay passed away last year. In his memory, friends and community members have raised the funds to complete his final work. This exhibition is of fifty photographs printed on metal, as was envisioned by Jay.

Traditionally relegated to sexual invisibility by the age of fifty, the men in the work defy cultural expectations by presenting themselves as self-possessed, confident, and very sexual beings. Survivors of the worst years of the AIDS plague, these men are role models for younger generations of gay men, illuminating pathways to self-fulfilled maturity and comradery.

Thank you to Jay Jorgensen for this perfect picture above of Jay doing what he loved. And what we loved him for.
