RIP ToF

33 years ago today, Tom of Finland died in Helsinki. In many ways, Tom never could have imagined how the world would change. In Tom’s time, fetishism was classified as a disease. Since his death, the appreciation of his work has continued to grow, yes. But the state of the world would also be on his mind today.

Today in hindsight we offer this prescient quote from Tom of Finland in his memory:

“With purpose I wanted to influence Gays, to change their opinion of themselves.

“I also wanted to influence straight people so they could understand and accept the beauty and rights that Gay people should have.” – Tom of Finland
