“Our house is built on top of a Viking cemetery. Today, the environment is an ancient monument. The layers of history feel great. They give an extra feel to living. We, as friends of horror movies, have sometimes laughed that it is quite right to live on top of an old cemetery. In addition, our house is the childhood home of Tom of Finland (born Touko Laaksonen). Until 1989, the building operated as a school. Laaksonen’s mother once worked as the school’s principal and his father as a teacher. The house has been following the world for over a hundred years, so we make sure it stands here for the next century.”

Thank you to the voters, Saana and Olli’s home, Toukolaakso, is the most beautiful house in Finland in 2021! Now we are starting to design a sauna and compost, the champagne will only be opened when Saana can enjoy it.

It has been surprising how much our house has attracted outsiders. Tom of Finland is perhaps the most famous Finnish artist in the world, and many people from several different countries have visited our home. Durk Dehner, Cofounder of Tom of Finland Foundation, visits here every few years to follow the progress of our renovation.
