Sticks and Stones (2014) [15m 57s – Written and Directed by Silas Howard]
Sticks and Stones is an intimate documentary about a song, a street, and a diva. Bambi Lake, a notorious San Francisco transgender performer and entertainer, takes us on a stroll down Polk Street, sharing anecdotes and the history behind her song “Golden Age of Hustlers”, which was written about her time as a street hustler in the mid-’70s. She landed on Polk Street after a stint with the Cockettes and prior to regular gigs at renowned ’80s/’90spunk venue, the Mabuhey Gardens.

Hustler White (1996) [1h 19m – Written and Directed by Rick Castro, Bruce LaBruce]
In a plot reminiscent of Sunset Boulevard, Hustler White transposes the action from the silver screen’s old movie backlots to contemporary male prostitution and the porn industry. The film, which like all of LaBruce’s work is sexually explicit, includes a controversial amputee sex scene. Codirector Rick Castro cast real male hustlers and his former models, including Tony Ward, as amateur actors.

Rick Castro will be in attendance to introduce the film and answer questions.

100 Boyfriends Mixtape (2016) [14m 9s – Written and Directed by Brontez Purnell]
Veteran Bay Area performer and artists, Brontez Purnell makes his directorial debut with this semi-autobiographical “video mix tape”, which was filmed on digital video, VHS and 8 MM film. Relying on his punk rock aesthetic to give the world a peek into his singularly unique perspective, 100 Boyfriends Mixtape takes the viewer on an unforgettable ride that’s as audacious and hardcore as it is experimental.

Taxi Zum Klo (1981) [1hr 38m – Written and Directed by Frank Ripploh]
Taxi Zum Klo also stars Frank Ripploh. The film is a dark comedy of manners that wryly explores the life of a Berlin school teacher and the contrasts between his public and private lives. Shot on location with many characters appearing as themselves, the film documents gay culture in West Berlin in the brief moment post gay liberation and before the onset of AIDS, around 1980. Ripploh has stated that much of the film was autobiographical.

Cuerpo (2018) [10m 4s – By Mar Citlali]
Cuerpo is a continuous collage of imagery showing the body in it’s most visceral modes of movement and gratification. The body dancing, sweating, and fucking is displayed via original and reappropriated footage constantly built, layered, and disintegrated.

Mysterious Skin (2005) [1h 47m – Directed and Written by Greg Araki with Novel by Scott Heim]
Mysterious Skin tells the story of two pre-adolescent boys who are sexually abused by their baseball coach, and how it affects their lives in different ways into their young adulthood. You Will Never Be a Woman. You Must Live the Rest of Your Days Entirely as a Man and You Will Only Grow More Masculine with Every Passing Year. (2008) [8m 44s – Zackary Drucker, in collaboration with Van Barnes, Mariah Garnett and A.L. Steiner]
In You Will Never Be a Woman, two trans-identified women share moments of love, insult, and masochism, exchanging both kiki and kai kai languages. Their syncopated exchanges oscillate from hateful to loving, blurring the distinction between lover and enemy – a position that both women seem to share. The two characters prepare each other for a larger, more dangerous culture of intolerance and violence, occupying multiple roles and preparing on all fronts as they appropriate and enact the fetishistic language of sex ads, assault the spectator, antagonize (“read”) each other, and ultimately regain their agency.

Daddy and the Muscle Academy (1991) [55m – Written and directed by Ilppo Pohjola, made in cooperation with Yle/TV2 and Tom of Finland Foundation]
Tom of Finland is one of the major icons of the gay world. His provocative erotic drawings have had an enormous influence on gay identity, attitude and self-understanding. This ground-breaking work combines interviews with Tom (prior to his death in 1991) and his leather men acolytes with hundreds of his original drawings and steamy fantasy scenes inspired by his work. The viewer is treated to hundreds of vividly rendered portraits of male models, ranging from “Drummer Daddies to fellow artists”. The film includes interviews with the artist’s models, associates and intimates, not to mention a dramatized journey into “Tom’s soul”.

New Digital remastered version. Durk Dehner will talk about the film.

Sebastiane (1976) [1h 26m – Written and Directed by Paul Humfress, Derek Jarman]
Sebastiane portrays the events of the life of Saint Sebastian, including his iconic martyrdom by arrows. The film, which was aimed at a gay audience, was controversial for the homoeroticism portrayed between the soldiers and for being dialogued entirely in Latin.
