Tom takes on New York

Starting off 2023 in New York, David Kordansky Gallery presents a new exhibition of work by Tom of Finland. Including myriad works from the Kake series of graphic novels, the exhibition will present both collage and drawing artworks of Tom’s. This will shine a light on his process of rendering images through a variety of media along the way.

Such an exhibition deserves a proper kick-off. Durk Dehner, Cofounder of Tom of Finland Foundation, will touch on Tom’s influence across generations and temporalities. Artists Nayland Blake and Brontez Purnell will speak to Tom’s impact on their own writing and artistic practices. Claire Gilman of The Drawing Center will address Tom’s drawings in a formal context and as relates to 20th century art more generally.

Join us this Thursday 12th January at 5p for this panel, followed by a reception for the opening of the exhibition. Tom of Finland: Highway Patrol, Greasy Rider, and Other Selected Works is open to the public 13th January – 25th February.
