Tom of Finland’s artwork has inspired countless artists over the years. The Tom of Finland Foundation Artist-in-Residence program gives artists an opportunity to live at TOM House and delve into the library and archives to conduct research for their own work. Occasionally the Foundation receives similar requests from other notable figures.
When the Queen of Burlesque Dita Von Teese was preparing for her Glamonatrix tour, she took a few days to pour over Tom’s work and the Foundation collection. Working with her creative team, including photographer Albert Sanchez, Dita found just the image she wanted to replicate for her promotional photoshoot: TOM OF FINLAND Untitled (catalog #82.01), 1982. This iconic color pencil drawing has been reimagined with Swarovski-studded stilettos, a pink satin Muir cap, and Dita Von Teese smiling front and center. Tom’s legacy lives on.
