Selected works by Carlos Enfedaque

Tom of Finland Foundation is proud to present Ghosts Were Lovers Too, a new exhibition of work by Artist-in-Residence Carlos Enfedaque.

This new body of work taps into the idea of the collective. They are artworks full of Queer visual language, sending signals to the greater community. Enfedaque engages with concepts of grief, loss, and memory contrasted by identity, desire, and love.

The idea of the ghost reflects on what remains but also that which haunts us: ghost as a giver of love and figments of the living while at the same time being symbols of our own mortality. His work is an exercise in joy and relief in the passing, to be at ease with the silence, a way of surviving which only happens in the memories of others, and the wisdom lost in the gap of a generation of ancestors.

Through the process of diving into the Foundation archives and collection of publications spanning decades, Enfedaque developed a style of intervention. Multi-layered collages and altered Polaroids dialogue with dimensional oil still lifes.

This exhibition narrates a journey about self-discovery, exploration of identity, and manifestation of unabashed sexuality found through collective otherness.

An opening reception will see the artist in conversation with fellow artist and writer William E. Jones at 7p, with by a DJ set by EthicalDrvgs and delicious eats from Rosie Rosales.
