Paintings, performances and readings

Leyba will have a total of 23 works on display, mixed media paintings on canvas that he refuses to call erotic instead opting to call them, “Sexual Paintings.” During his residency at TOM House, Leyba looked forward to reembracing his more narrative and illustrative work after a period of abstraction. 

“Just in time for the next stage in the struggles of our collective human evolution in the City of Los Angeles – as what could be a new ground zero of cultural, political and climate catastrophes, both real and imagined. Just as Goya created The Disasters of War,  I am here to paint Los Angeles’s total collapse.”

His paintings are a collage of paint, xerox prints, and BDSM material decoupaged together to create what he imagines to be the end of times. He has been taking inspiration for these paintings from political artists and theorists like Goya and Bataille.
