“While his work mainly depicts men engaging in Gay acts of eroticism, Tom of Finland also acknowledged and celebrated Bisexual men in his work. Bisexuality is often thought of as a ‘phase’, or a pit stop on the road to Homosexuality, especially for men—who in a Heteropatriarchal society, have less room to openly explore sexual desire outside of the Gay/Straight binary. Tom’s inclusion of Bisexual men in his drawings shouldn’t be revolutionary—his work reflects the world as he knew and experienced it—but with so little representation of Bisexual men in mainstream erotic art, it feels significant. Tom made art to get everyone off, and didn’t exclude Bisexual men from his ‘dirty drawings’.”

This preliminary drawing was recently exhibited as part of Before the Men.
