One of Tom of Finland’s most intimate and poetic drawings—the closing panel from Kake vol. 5–Punishment, 1970. Originally created as part of Tom’s groundbreaking Kake graphic novel series, the image is reborn, transforming erotic tension into a meditation on tenderness, freedom, and the language of desire. 

The Kake series—produced between 1968 and 1986—became a defining work of underground Gay culture, merging humor and hypermasculine fantasy with a utopian vision of equality and freedom. The original panel from Punishment, in the Tom of Finland Foundation Permanent Collection, was created at a moment when Tom was refining both his visual language and his political vision—giving form to an imagined world where sensuality was not shameful but sacred.

By reintroducing this image more than five decades later, the Foundation invites a renewed reflection on beauty, vulnerability, and strength—ideals that feel especially vital in our current time.

An Edition that Supports Queer Futures

More than a collector’s piece, Flower is an act of support. Proceeds from the edition will directly fund the Tom of Finland Foundation Artist-in-Residence Program in Los Angeles and BOFFO’s residency initiatives in Fire Island, helping to sustain spaces where Queer artists can create freely, experiment boldly, and find belonging.

This collaboration marks the first joint edition between Tom of Finland Foundation and BOFFO, uniting two organizations dedicated to nurturing Queer creativity across time, place, and medium.

As the world continues to grapple with questions of identity, freedom, and belonging,
Tom of Finland’s Flower reminds us that beauty itself—
in all its sensual, imperfect, and defiant forms—remains a radical act.

The edition debuts alongside BOFFO’s exhibition Lavender Bloom which brings together artists who reinterpret floral imagery as symbols of resilience and transformation—situating Tom of Finland’s Flower within a continuum of Queer beauty that spans generations.
