He gave us a whole new vocabulary of what we could be.
His life was a lesson in being the consummate Homosexual.

Along with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, they defined the homoerotic aesthetic for their generation and have since served as inspiration for so many photographers and illustrators who’ve followed them. Though his work is almost cartoonish at times, he so realistically captured the look and underlying mood of the gay community of the time, as almost a rebellion against the closeted life most men were forced to live…And so many decades later, he still influences the gay male aesthetic.
