“Tom of Finland” musical comes to Verkatehdas in autumn 2026!

The musical recounts how Touko Laaksonen evolved into Tom of Finland.

Tom of Finland is a musical written by Tuomas Parkkinen and composed by Jussi Vahvaselkä and Jori Roosberg about Touko Laaksonen, his art, worldview, joy and pride. The musical’s premiere is on 3rd September 2026 at Vanaja Hall in Verkatehdas, and it will be realised as a joint production by Hämeenlinna Theater and Verkatehdas.

Tom of Finland Foundation supports this production of the Tom of Finland musical, and we could not be more excited to announce that its website is now live! The Foundation proclaims, “It is funny, real, uplifting, respectful and thought-provoking.”

The production tells the tale of the talented, peculiar son of two teachers living in Kaarina who became the most famous Finnish artist in the world. A man who drew his fantasies so real and relatable that millions of men found themselves and their sexuality: Tom’s drawings gave them a reason to open their eyes in the morning. For the majority, Tom’s art lifted the veil into a world that had, up until then, been unknown, in the shadows, even forbidden and punishable. The musical challenges the audience to ponder the possibility that Tom and his art have been among the greatest influencers.

Tickets go on sale 5th September 2025. Visit their new website for more information!
