Two peas in a pod

Beryl Cook has been described as a “self-taught painter with a beady eye for the joys and absurdities of life”. Tom of Finland, also self-taught, is the grand daddy of Queer erotic art. We couldn’t think of a more exciting joint show than Beryl Cook / Tom of Finland at Studio Voltaire!

Opening tomorrow 15th May in London, Beryl Cook / Tom of Finland is the first time the two artists have been paired together for a show. What makes the pairing so unique is that while both artists documented folks on the fringes of society, their subjects contrasted wildly.  Tom’s chiseled, taught musculatures contrast with Beryl’s soft, rounded curves. Yet both bring such life to their respective works.

Beryl Cook / Tom of Finland runs 15th May through 25th August at Studio Voltaire in London.
